A RIP-ROARING 8-37 by Ste Dean set up Moorfield for the victory which has consolidated their lead in Bromborough Paints Merseyside & Southport Alliance Division Two.

The team produced a clinical performance against visiting Croston as their title rivals elsewhere fell foul of the weather.

Visiting skipper Rob Eastham won the toss and elected to bat. But with Dean quickly getting into his stride and wickets starting to fall almost immediately, he must have regretted the decision.

Only Paul Caunce, batting at five, offered any real resistance with a stubborn 26.

Skipper Eastham chipped in with a defiant 22 but to little avail as Dean tore the batting apart in a 12-over spell which included three maidens.

Croston were dismissed for 89 off 25 overs. In response, the home side notched 90-5 off only 15 overs for a comfortable victory

Opener and skipper Danny Naughton made a good 45 before being trapped lbw.

Neil Maher, at three, assisted his captain with a quickfire 27 before being caught.

Moorfield took 24 points to Croston's two from a match in which Halton Scaffolding were ball sponsors. nMoorfield 2nds' poor run continued in the Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition's Division One.

They were bowled out for 82 with opponents Merseyside Commonwealth knocking off the runs for the loss of only three wickets.
