DANNY Leech, Oulton Park's Whitegate-based Cheshire bat, finished third in the Murray Smith County League ECB Premiership averages - but he was the top Englishman.

Only Aussies Damien Wallace (Oxton) 865 at 49.06 and Derwen Thompson (Poynton) 720/48 did better. Former Winnington Parker Leech recorded 657 runs at an average 43.80.

Winnington's own Aussie Craig Little, having scored a club record 1,059 runs, was third in the First Division averages with 58.33.

Oulton's Mike Bentham was leading wicket keeper with 39 victims. The Little Budworth club face newly promoted Christleton at home in the opening fixture next year.

Leech and Bentham were among the award winners at Oulton's annual presentation night at the Mill Pool on Friday.

Recipients were: 1st Xl - batting Leech, bowling Danny Jones, fielding Bentham; 2nds - batting Steve Yates, bowling Steve Wright, fielding Ric Moore; 3rds - batting Damian Barton, bowling David Clarke, fielding Will Thompson.

Best match-winning innings John Davies, best match-winning bowling Jason Whittaker; Clubman of the Year Tony Eustance; Colt of the Year Nick James; junior batting Jonny Kettle and Ric Moore; junior bowling Ben Kettle and Jimmy Guest; most improved junior Vincent Chorlton and Ian Moss.

Meanwhile, former 1st XI skipper Steve Yates is to captain Cheshire Over-50s and Barnton have been admitted to the County League's Over-40s competition.

Cheshire have drawn Wales at home in the Minor Counties Cup 2nd round (June 12) and the winners are away at either Wiltshire or Bucks.

HARTFORD have been awarded the Clubmark accreditation by the Sports Council.

The Grange Park club had to show they had reached high standards in safety and quality of coaching for juniors to win the award.

Now they are seeking new junior members and seniors also and anyone interested can contact chairman John Prew (01606 74280), secretary Matthew Shinkfield (872898) or Mike Farrow (77324) for further details.

At the annual meeting Prew and Shinkfield were re-elected along with captains Rob Whittle (1sts) and Rob Stimpson.
