TATTENHALL’S outstanding Kiwi batsman Tom Hyslop saved his team-mates’ blushes on Saturday with a magnificent century.

Hyslop scored an unbeaten 137 in a tally of 218-9 in an away draw with Division Two promotion-chasers Bredbury St Mark’s.

He struck 11 fours and 12 sixes on a day when those around him struggled with the bat, the next highest scorer being Baz Street with 13.

Tattenhall CC chairman Mel Dobson said: “Hyslop’s hundred will live long in the memory of all who witnessed it.”

Tattenhall were put in to bat first but Hyslop was soon left as the only realistic hope of posting a big total.

Batting partners came and went so Hyslop upped the ante with a salvo of sixes. Alan Brock came in at 11 and shared in a last-wicket stand worth 70 runs, contributing just six – all from one shot – as Hyslop kept the scoreboard ticking over. In reply, Bredbury fell well short at 179-8 (Brock 4-28) in conditions made worse by the rain that fell during the tea interval.

Only 24 overs’ play was possible in the MALPAS v Middlewich match before rain descended from the Welsh hills. Middlewich were 71-2.

CHRISTLETON slipped to a 10-run home defeat in Division One after failing to chase down Cheadle Hulme’s modest total.

The mid-table Chester hosts restricted the visitors to only 177. Jordan Potts (53) starred with the bat as Varun Sood bagged a superb 6-66 while Iroshan de Silva took 4-17.

But only David Bates (43no) stood out in Christleton’s reply, which closed at 167 (Liam Scammell 3-29).
