TATTENHALL kept up the pressure on county league Division Two leaders Timperley with a five-wicket win over Stockport Georgians on Saturday.

They have established an 18-point buffer from the third-placed team after their third win on the spin.

But it was not quite as comfortable as it could have been against their struggling visitors.

In wet and windy weather Tattenhall decided to bowl – and it proved a good decision.

Owen Williamson (4-32) struck with his first ball and his second over saw two more wickets – one courtesy of a stunning stumping from Glenn Coppack.

Dan Power got in on the act, bowling fast, full and straight for a 3-26 which included a superb one-handed return catch centimetres off the turf.

Georgians were reeling at 106-8 but Iftikhar Hussain (54) and Steve Vincent (30no) pushed them up to a more respectable 167-9 at the close.

The new-look opening pairing of Owen Williamson (11) and Olly Thompson (65) made a decent start to the reply, with the latter clocking up eight fours.

A bullish Tom Hyslop smacked 53no off 61 balls but Tattenhall limped over the line when John Gibbon and Sam Green both came and went.

Their victory, with 170-5 off 47.2 overs, is a confidence boost though ahead of this weekend’s trip to Timperley.

ALVANLEY slipped to their seventh defeat of the season in embarrassing style at Congleton.

They were hammered by 177 runs after the hosts batted first and rattled up 245-5dec in 48 overs. They had eight batsmen all getting between 25-41 as Stephen Charles and Andy Hayhurst picked up two wickets apiece.

In reply Alvanley were skittled for 68. Only Simon Gee (24) managed double figures as Jack Higginbotham returned 5-26.
