TATTENHALL made it two wins in two in the Cheshire County League Division Two after seeing off Ashton-on-Mersey by two wickets.

Newly-promoted Mersey must have been pretty pleased at making 213-6 at home to Tatts. But Roy Sandford’s side are specialists at chasing totals and the Tatts captain put the hosts in to bat.

Early on it looked like the wrong call as erratic bowling and aggressive batting saw the hosts race to 50 in seven overs but seamers Mike Roberts and Andy Morris took control and Craig Williamson and Mel Dobson helped tuck Mersey away.

After tea Tatts were soon in tatters again at 59-5.

But Paul Kettle (59), Mike Roberts (34), big-hitting Andy Morris 53no and stubborn tail-ender Dobson (20no) rescued victory and 20 valuable points for Tatts as they reached 214-8.

Tattenhall 2nds were left frustrated with a draw at home to Ashton-on- Mersey.

Tatts skipper Ewan Drake elected to bat and saw useful contributions from opener Paul Ferriday (70), Grahame Harper (37), Mark Sandford (21) and Andrew Atkinson (21) as Tatts posted a challenging 200ao.

The visitors set about chasing down their target but edges and lofted shots all found empty space in the field.

Mersey finished on 191-7 to tie the game.
