AFTER being frustrated by the wet weather in the first two weeks of the season, Saughall finally saw some Cheshire Alliance action on Saturday – but they were beaten at Wistaston Village.

Bowling first, Saughall did well to restrict the hosts to 150-9, largely thanks to a terrific 5-52 from paceman Lawrence Gotts.

On a chilly afternoon it was a fantastic performance in the field, typified by a brilliant running catch from Ian Peters.

Saughall’s batting line-up had an unusual look with three of their top four absent at three separate weddings.

The visitors were soon struggling on 37-4 but James Martin (20) and Mike Andrews (39) fought back well. With the score 112-7, victory seemed within their grasps.

But opening left-armer Mike Kingdom (5-29) was recalled in to the attack to go through the tail as Saughall were dismissed for 120.

Elsewhere in Division One, FRODSHAM maintained their promising start to the season with a draw at Sandbach.

Tom Haliwell (4-42) was the pick of the visiting bowlers as Sandbach made 194-8dec.

In reply, a determined knock from skipper Geoff Abram (46) helped Frodsham to 144-9.
