SAUGHALL got back to winning ways with an impressive victory over leaders Frodsham in Division Two on Saturday.

Saughall skipper Chris Andrews won the toss and inserted the hosts to bat first on a saturated track.

Mandeep Singh (2-27) picked up both Frodsham openers as the menacing black clouds lifted over the game. Important top-order wickets continued to fall with Mike Andrews (2-23) forcing uppish drives to reduce the hosts to 63-4.

Disciplined bowling by Dipak Jena (3-48) cranked up the pressure as the overs ticked by. Geoff Abram (22) and Dave Neary (23no) swung their bats gamely in the dying overs but two wickets in the final over by Chris Andrews (3-43) ensured that Frodsham were dismissed for 146.

Saughall replied in bright sunshine with an 88-run opening partnership between James Huxley (42) and twin brother Martin (68).

They survived some middle order jitters and Adam Griffiths (28no) and Ben Salisbury (3no) held their nerve to guide Saughall home and move them up to third in the table with 147-3.

Chris Andrews said: “We’ve been drawing too many games lately, so to end the run with a win at top of the table will do our confidence the world of good.”
