IT was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show for Saughall on Saturday as they suffered an 11-run defeat at home to fellow high-flyers Audlem.
Chris Andrews’ boys were confident going into the clash after claiming the scalp of Division Two leaders Frodsham seven days earlier.
And, after captain Andrews (4-18), Dipak Jena (3-34), Mike Andrews (1-12) and Les Perkins (1-18) polished the visitors off for 127, they looked set to record a victory that would have moved them up to second.
But, Jena (30) and James Huxley (23) apart, Saughall never got going in reply and they were stopped short on 116.
FRODSHAM bounced back from only their second defeat of the season to record a 97-run success at Mossley which kept them clear of second-placed Haslington.
Number six James Burton was the star of the show for Geoff Abram’s side. Supported by Ged Swan (39) and skipper Abram (21no), he fired an unbeaten 78 to haul Frodsham up to 226-5dec after their top-four batsman faltered.
All-rounder Burton (4-47) then teamed up with Matt Williamson (5-50) to skittle Mossley for 129.
CAPENHURST were on the end of an eight-wicket beating at The Groves 2nds in Division Three.
Only N Healing (20), B Sylvester (15) and C Dawson (11) made double figures as Capenhurst were all out for just 77. Groves then cruised to 80-2.
