A CHESTER cricketer is looking forward to making her debut for the England women’s team on their tour of Sri Lanka.

Lauren Griffiths, 23, of Guilden Sutton, will travel to the sub-continent in November to compete in two 50-over internationals and three twenty20 games.

Griffiths a member of the England squad that won the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia last year but did not manage to feature in any of the games.

But she will travel to Sri Lanka as the first-choice wicket-keeper and she is relishing the prospect of representing her country for the first time.

The former Upton High School pupil said: “The thought of representing England makes me so excited and I just want to go and play now.

“Going to Australia last year was amazing and such a good experience for me. But I didn’t play so I am actually still waiting for my first cap.

“Now I am the senior ‘keeper in the squad so hopefully I’ll get my chance. All I have to do then is make sure I take it.”

Griffiths’ call up caps an impressive season for the former Chester Boughton Hall player and captain of the Cheshire county side.

She has 18 dismissals to her name at county level and has also been in impressive form for her club side, Reading.
