ALVANLEY failed to overcome the hoodoo which surrounds their games against Trafford MV as they secured a losing draw. which dented their Division One title hopes.

Skipper Andy Bennion lost the toss and Trafford batted first, getting off to a steady start.

At 107-2 Alvanley’s Chris Charles came in and took 4-25 to keep Trafford to 176-9. Bennion (15) and Shewring (23) struck 38 off eight overs to put the visitors en route to a welcome win.

A flurry of wickets ended hopes of victory despite Rob Fisher’s 32 and Phil Jones’ 24no.

Credit was reserved for 16-year-old Ross McNamara. His 14 not out of 35 balls with fielders crowding him showed great courage in his debut innings as Alvanley reached 145-8.

BARROW drew at Hale Barns. The hosts set 154-8 before restricting Barrow to 148-9 in their allotted overs.

MALPAS defeated hosts Davenham by 39 runs.

Malpas were reduced to 20-2 when Jon Suckley came to the wicket and hit 50.

A valuable partnership between Dave Hunt (47no) and Tony Crabb (17no) managed to steer Malpas to a challenging target of 182-7.

Hunt then took career-best figures of 8-53 off 21 overs, as Davenham were bowled for 143.

The victory lifted Malpas back into fourth spot and revived their promotion bid.

In Division Two CHOLMONDELEY lost at Lymm OP, after batting first and being 95ao. Lymm won with 96-4.

KINGSLEY’S unbeaten five-game run came to an end against the high flying young guns of Stockport.

Making first use of a good pitch, John Elliott (25) and Mark Butcher (21) laid a solid foundation but Kingsley failed to bat their overs as they were dismissed for 93.

In the field Kingsley upped their game and took six wickets, the pick being off-spinner James Hendry who claimed 4-29 as Stockport crossed the line with plenty of overs to spare.

CHESTER COUNTY OFFICERS lost at Pott Shrigley in Division Three.

CCO batted first and put up a poor total on a traditional batting graveyard.

Tony Hattersley (11) and Ian Barlow (15no) were the top scorers as CCO set 83ao.

Pott did not hang about, despite losing a wicket to Steve Johnson’s first ball as they scored 87-1 leaving Chester in fifth place.

In the same division Sandbach comfortably saw off BUNBURY after batting first and making 234-3(dec). Bunbury were 147ao.
