ALVANLEY hosted old rivals Stockport on Saturday but were unable to earn a much needed win in Division Two of the Cheshire County League.
Rain delayed the start and the game was reduced to 40 overs.
Stockport won the toss and asked Alvanley to bat first and after a few early wickets Glenn Pickersgill and Dave Shewring steadied the ship.
But calamity struck with the score on 89. For the second time in a month Shewring was run out backing up and Chris Fletcher was tasked with ensuring the overs were used up as Chris Charles scored 32 to take Alvanley to 138-9.
Alvanley’s bowlers were hampered when Greg Weir, running in hard in the third over, suffered a back injury and had to go to hospital with a trapped nerve and spasm.
Despite tight bowling from Charles, Stockport reached 139-4 and take victory with nine balls to spare.
A tail-wag from MALPAS saw Maneesha Nissanka (38), Connor Tinsley (29) and Eddie Barlow (20) push them to 148ao at Stockport Georgians but they ended up losing by six wickets as Stockport put on 152-4, Adrian Stubbs the pick of the bowlers with 3-22.
TATTENHALL were beaten by eight wickets at the Flacca by visiting Warrington.
Ian Richards (32) and Tom Hyslop (37) drove them to 133-9, but Warrington chewed up the runs with ease after the break to score 134-2.
