EARLY high-flyers Alvanley saw off visitors Trafford Metrovics by three wickets on Saturday.

Sitting second in Meller Braggins League Division One, Alvanley beat bogey team Trafford for the first time since the Metrovics were promoted to Division One in 2008.

Despite the wet conditions, groundsman Ian Charles got the game on and Nick Geddis (2-25) and Rob Fisher (2-36) helped keep Trafford to 158-5 in a reduced 39 overs.

Andy Bennion then led the fightback scoring a run-a-ball 35 as Alvanley drifted to 102-5.

Geddis and Fisher wagged the tail however and Geddis struck 18 off the final over to make 36no and give Alvanley victory.

OAKMERE’S Ian Eaton struck 120no as they drew with Winnington Park.

Eaton’s massive total helped Oakmere put on 223-4 but Park dug in for the draw reaching 176-6 (Henry Sanderson 2-19).

In Division Two, CHOLMONDELEY enjoyed a 42-run win at Over Peover.

Having set a target of 166ao, Chum set about dismissing hosts Over for 124.

Division Three saw CHESTER COUNTY OFFICERS draw with BUNBURY.

In a rain-affected match CCO dominated, with captain Mike Rowlands scoring 101no off 88 balls and taking three wickets.

With the match reduced to 32 overs winning the toss could have been a big advantage, but Bunbury duly elected to bowl first.

In-form Ian Rule supported Rowlands but Bunbury gained control of the run rate as Robin Williams picked up the wicket of Rule (18) with the score on 78-2.

In came Chris Wright (38no) and with an over left CCO declared on 173-2.

After tea CCO hit their straps as the leg spin of Rowlands (3-20) put them in control.

But with Bunbury at 84-3 off 22 overs the rain returned to save them.

When it passed, there were six overs left to bowl and Bunbury batted out to score 108-5.

None of our local sides saw action in the Cheshire Alliance due to rain.
