ALVANLEY Cricket Club celebrated a successful season at their annual presentation evening.

The Frodsham Road outfit’s first XI finished third in Meller Braggins League Division One, narrowly missing out on promotion.

The captain’s award went to Ian Charles in recognition of the superb pitches he produced throughout the campaign. Robin Fisher was named best bowler, with skipper Andy Bennion netting the batting prize.

The season was also notable for the emergence of Chris Jones as an opening batsman while youngsters Chris Charles, Ben Pearce and Nick Geddis all showed great progress.

Alvanley 2nds also finished third – a great effort having only being promoted the year before.

Captain Nigel Wakefield marshalled a young team expertly but he was pipped to the best batsman title by James Palliser. Matt Bragg claimed the bowling prize, while Ed Speakman won the captain’s award.

Alvanley 3rds, under the leadership of skipper Emlyn Roberts, enjoyed a memorable debut season as they won their league by a huge margin. Their awards were shared between Andy Blount (batting), Dave Summers (bowling) and Mike Roberts (captain’s).

Colin Wood was named player of the year for the title-winning midweek ‘Oaks’ XI, while the club’s under 18s were also praised for reaching the semi-finals of the Cheshire Cup.
