CHESHIRE have been boosted by the signing of former Derbyshire batsman Chris Bassano.

Bassano, who plays for Oulton Park, joins the side for their next three-day Minor Counties clash away to Berkshire, which starts on Sunday.

The former first-class player's selection is the only change to the Cheshire side which hammered Minor Counties holders Devon at Chester Boughton Hall less than a fortnight ago.

Bramhall batsman Nick Cantello makes way for Bassano, as Cheshire look to extend their impressive unbeaten start to the season.

Cheshire team manager Sandy Scrimgeour said: 'We've had a great start to the season, but we must push on from here. Berkshire are a very strong side, but hopefully we can keep our winning run going.

'Chris has first-class experience behind him, which should be good for the side. He's played at a very high level and I hope he does very well for us.'

That is a view echoed by Cheshire skipper Andy Hall whom, having set a new Cheshire batting record with Danny Leech against Devon, is understandably full of confidence.

Hall said: 'We've not lost a game yet this season and we're playing well as a team. We've got to keep our run going for as long as possible.

'Chris is a very good player and with Nathan Dumelow and Ben Spendlove (both former Derbyshire) in the side, we've lots of experience which I hope will rub off on the younger players and help them improve.'

Hyde youngsters Tom Youngs and Danny Woods are again given the chance to impress with the ball, while Neston all-rounder Chris Finegan retains his place.
