NANTWICH went out in the first round of the Cockspur National Club Championship after a 17-run loss at Hindley St Peter's on Sunday.

Batting first, the home side posted 171-8 from their 45 overs in the face of some steady bowling from the Dabbers' attack.

Nantwich made five changes to the team that drew with Chester the previous day as they gave youngsters their chance, but despite good knocks from Jeff Maynard (42) and Chris Hampshire (27), the total proved too much.

Nantwich were eventually dismissed for 154 in the 44th over.

Alsager visit Chester Boughton Hall in a second-round tie on Sunday. Both clubs were given first-round byes.
