MIKE Chester has been elected as captain of Weston Cricket Club as they prepare for life in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League.

The club has joined the league, sponsored by Pipemaster, after the Staffordshire and District League ceased to exist.

Chester will be backed in the new Championship Division Two by returning professional Saad Wasim, who will be vice-captain and a club coach. The seconds will be led by Andy Collett, while Steve Neale will take over the reins of the club's Stone League team on Sundays.

Weston will run four adult teams and four junior teams this season. The juniors will play in the South Cheshire Junior League, and will operate at U9, U11, U13 and U15 level. More players are required, particularly at U13 and U15.

Indoor nets practice sessions are being held at Malbank School in Nantwich, on Fridays. Players U15 start at 6.30pm, with others at 7.30pm. Anyone interested in joining Weston can call Alan Holdcroft on 01270 588782 or Dave Allcock on 01270 762652 . For more information visit www.westoncc.com.
