The Cheshire Cup trophy will be staying at Filkins Lane after Chester Boughton Hall won Sunday’s final, sealing their fourth victory in the competition in as many years.

Lee Dixon’s side added to their successes in 2012, 2013 and 2014 by beating New Brighton by 22 runs at Rake Lane.

Batting first in front of a large crowd, Boughton Hall amassed 264-8, man of the match Warren Goodwin striking 88 including two sixes and eight fours.

After Mark Rowland had gone for 14 with the score on 27, Ollie Law (29) and Goodwin looked in little danger as they added 66 for the second wicket before Law fell lbw.

Skipper Dixon added 28 before a fine innings of 51 from youngster Alex Money pushed Chester towards a challenging total. Ross Dixon’s cameo role after retiring hurt and returning at the death added a crucial 12 runs from the last three balls.

Lancashire’s Luke Procter looked menacing with the ball as he took 2-35 – and he was the rock in the New Brighton reply.

Josh Rylance and Khurram Hussain made a confident start as they added 67 before Harry Killoran got the breakthrough with a sharp catch off his own bowling.

Hussain followed shortly afterwards, and Procter took up the challenge.

But Chester stuck to their task, and Ross Dixon and Jack Williams backed up Ash Davis to keep things tight.

Procter threatened to win the game on his own but as a tight finish loomed, Davis bowled the danger man for 81 and the celebrations could begin. New Brighton closed 22 runs short on 242.

Goodwin took 2-22 to seal his man of the match performance.
