CHESHIRE Women’s League champions Chester Boughton Hall clinched the second leg of a possible treble on bank holiday Monday with a superb performance in the Lovelane Knockout Cup final.

Opponents Poynton Fire were beaten by 58 runs in a one-sided contest at Davenham.

Lauren Griffiths and skipper Ali Cutler both made 20 retired as they got the boundaries flowing in the Chester innings, each four being greeted by a blast of music supplied by host club Davenham. After this brisk start, some tight bowling in the latter part of the innings from the likes of Rebecca Platt and Jennie Kitzinger rallied Poynton, but useful contributions from Vicky Latham and Lorna Thomas took Boughton Hall to 101-3.

Seven different Chester bowlers all produced an exemplary display of line and length as Poynton fell well short on 43-9.

The top three were run out while Thomas bagged 2-2 in four overs and Annette Axon 2-3, also in four.

Boughton Hall bid for their third trophy of the summer on Sunday when they head to Warrington for the league’s Twenty20 final.
