THE final day of Cheshire’s Minor Counties Championship clash against Herefordshire was washed out at Eastnor on Tuesday.

It means that Cheshire, who gained 12 points from the draw, maintain their place in top spot going into their final game against Cornwall at Nantwich Cricket Club on August 17-19.

Second-placed Berkshire’s game against Oxfordshire at Banbury also finished in a draw after rain prevented any play on the third day, while it was the same situation at Bournemouth where Dorset were hosting neighbours Cornwall.

Cheshire went into the game against lowly Herefordshire with a five-point lead at the top, but team manager Sandy Scrimgeour was hopeful that the lead may have been extended by a couple of points.
