TOM Davies has stood down as president of Northwich Cricket Club. The new president is, er, Tom Davies.

Father passed the job over to son at the club's annual meeting.

Davies Snr, secretary of the now defunct Centre Cheshire Football League and one time youth team manager, has been president for seven years. At 83 and because of ill health he decided to step down and nominated his son.

Davies Jnr is a well-known athletics coach and launched the coaching company Multiflex, sponsors of the Chronicle Sports Award. He was a 2nd team batsman at North-wich in the 1960s.

'Tom has often been a voice of sense and wisdom, particularly through the years of the relocation to Moss Farm. He was never just a figurehead, but a worker too,' said club spokesman Simon James.

He was made an honorary life vice-president.

Northwich also lost their chairman, Rob Westworth, who was the driving force behind the club's relocation to

Moss Farm. He steps down after a serious illness and his successor is Peter James, who used to take care of the club in a different way.

He said: 'I lived near the ground in Vicarage Road and was their beat bobby.

'As the club fell into decline so did my interest and with the move to Moss Farm it was revived.'

James was previously vice-president in charge of grounds and buildings and in charge of the bar. He won the President's Trophy last season for his contribution to the club.

'I shall do as much as I can for the club. I'll be very much a backseat driver, but the aim is to get back into the County League,' he added.

The meeting rounded off the most successful season, in terms of trophies, in the club's history and prepared North-wich for life in the Meller Brag-gins Cheshire League.

John O'Sullivan and Steve Riley were re-elected 1st and 2nd Xl skippers respectively and the 3rds will be led by two

club coaches James Dufty and Mark Plant. nNorthwich plan to run junior teams at Under 19, 15, 13, 11 (two teams) and nine.

The surge in youngsters wanting to learn cricket after last summer's Ashes series had seen numbers rapidly increase over Northwich's winter coaching programme. nNorthwich lost money over the year due to poor bar management, but the situation has now been corrected, said treasurer James Dufty, who was re-appointed along with secretary Mark Phillips, Sunday social Xl captain Andy East, membership secretary Claire Edwards and fixtures secretary Simon James.

Duncan Cammack, Steve Hayes and Mike McDonough were elected to the committee as was Lynette Barker to promote the social side of her club. Her first move is to start a ladies' darts team. Scott Hayes was elected to represent the juniors. nNorthwich's registration evening for 2006 will be held on March 26 (6.30-8.30pm) at the pavilion.
