BIG-HITTING Runcorn had an upper hand in a Meller Braggins Cheshire League draw at home to Division One rivals Malpas.

Put in, Runcorn racked up 237-9 despite losing their openers early.

Mark Cahill and Iain Williams set the tone for their recovery by taking the score to 98-3.

Cahill's pugnacious 55 came from 64 balls and included six fours and three sixes, while Williams included three boundaries in his 23.

Both batsmen were caught in quick succession by the same fielder, Hunt.

But Steve Ollerenshaw continued the offensive. He added 55 with Jack Weston (14) and then 73 with Steven Sheakey, who hit 39.

Ollerenshaw was out for 72 from 60 balls before Malpas ran amok early on, plundering 39 off the four overs. Weston dismissed the two frontline batsmen to peg them back to 57-2.

Jones (30) and Aussie ace Scascighini then took the score along to 103 with the antipodean scoring a patient 60.

But with the score 179 in the 38th over, Scascighini was caught by Williams and Malpas gave up the chase.

They finished on 183-7 to give Run-corn a winning draw and 13 points to their visitors' nine.

nKingsley gave themselves a fighting chance to win at home in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One by racking up 189.

But they couldn't stop Sandbach beating the total with overs to spare.

Winning the toss, skipper Mark Butcher scored 39 before his team hit trouble at 83-5.

Kieron Ollier (79no), assisted by Adrian Burden (36) in a stand of 74, led a fightback in blistering heat.

Sandbach came out all guns blazing with the belligerent Smith scoring most of his 47 runs on the leg side.

Williams and DeSilva were out relatively cheaply but only Andy Storey (2-36) troubled the visitors.
