PETER Powell has stepped down after 10 years as chairman of Oakmere Cricket Club.

Among the advances Powell has overseen are the development of the clubhouse and the creation of first-class practice wickets and a scorebox.

He is stepping up to the role of president and is succeeded by Patrick Hutchinson.

Jan Oates was appointed secretary.

First-team skipper Paul Yearsley and vice captain Ian Eaton were re-elected, but the 2nds' voted in Steven Percival and Sara Kara as deputy.

Oakmere's Sunday side will be led by Mark Newall.

Ladies captain Chris Robinson is replaced by Shami Ahmed.

Phil Guest continues as junior manager and Tony Newall was thanked for guiding Oakmere to the Sport England Clubmark award.

Winter nets at Sir John Deane's College begin on February 3 and a Boxing Day friendly football match (10.30am) was also confirmed. Anyone wishing to enquire about nets or joining the club can contact Patrick Hutchinson on 01606 882669.

The annual meeting on Thursday appointed Phil Sharples as vice-capitain and Tom Argent and Mark Spalding as skipper and deputy of the 2nd Xl.

Bob Floyd retained the positions of Sunday captain and chairman.
