A youthful Chester FC exited the Cheshire Senior Cup at the first round stage last night after suffering a 3-1 defeat at North West Counties side Runcorn Town.
Goals from Chris Dykes, Mark Keddie and Sean Breen secured the triumph for the hosts at the Pavilions Sports Complex while Ibou Touray bagged a second half consolation for Steve Burr's men, who had trailed 3-0 at the break.
Chester gave a run out to a number of youth team prospects and fringe players, with the likes of John Disney, Danny Harrison, Callum Morris and goalkeeper Connor Roberts getting some game time.
But the Blues, who won the competition at the end of the 2012/2013 season, were well beaten by the home side and will now turn their attention to Saturday's eagerly-anticipated FA Cup first round clash at Southend United.
Chester FC starting XI: Roberts, Disney, Touray, Harrison, Morris, Savin, Menagh, Riley, Peers, Blake, Greenop.
