JETS' club recordbreaking 14-game winning streak came to a grinding halt at the Northgate Arena, on Sunday, as a woeful third-quarter display from the hosts saw Bears take charge.

Coach Paul Smith said: 'Brighton outfought us, out-coached us and outplayed us.

'We'd talked about how they'd slow down the tempo and take the edge off but we were unable to cope. We also missed too many shots.'

The chinks in Jets' armour had already started to show in the previous evening's trip to the BBL's worst team, Birmingham Bullets.

Only a buzzer-beating Calvin Davis tip-in enabled the visitors to grab their all-time best 14th consecutive league win (96-95) and avoid the most embarrassing of slip-ups.

But Bears seemed to be coming into the game on a low ebb having been beaten 99-82 at next-to-bottom Leicester Riders on Saturday and suffering from problems with reports in the Press revealing that coach/owner Nick Nurse had been declared bankrupt.

It seemed apt that his players vests were emblazoned with the word 'skint' - although this is actually the name of the record company that sponsors them.

The first half was very even with Brighton leading 22-21 at the end of the opening quarter and Jets up 42-40 at the interval.

However, while much credit must go for Bears' sterling efforts to nullify the BBL's best team, what followed in the third quarter must rank as one of Jets' worst 10-minute spells ever.

The visitors embarked on a 25-6 run with Jets' only points coming from the free-throw line and it looked for a while that they might even do the unthinkable and complete a quarter without netting a single basket from open play.

Smith was hauled up for a technical and it eventually took Jets a staggering eight minutes 11 seconds to register their first field goal.

Trailing 74-59 going into the final period, there was no way back for the hosts who were in more technical foul trouble before the ball was even back in play, with Moore this time guilty of back chat towards the officials.

Jets' scorers: Moore (26); Myers (25); Davis (13); Singleton (5); Murphy (3); Herriman (2); Martin (1).
