JETS lost a hard-fought BBL Trophy tie on Saturday when they travelled to face holders Plymouth.

The result means the Raiders now lead Group One, while the Jets prop up the table with no points from two games.

Plymouth’s back-court pairing of Brody Bishop, who bagged 17 points, and Anthony Martin, who finished with 16, carried the hosts to victory.

Shawn Myers registered 17 for Jets on a night when Paul Smith’s big points-scorers struggled to find their best form.

The teams could not be separated in the early stages as they were locked at 16-16 in the first quarter. By half-time, however, the Raiders had edged into a 37-34 lead thanks to a 10-3 burst.

The Jets came back in the third period and, after tying the game at 39-39, two scores from Jayson Obazuaye and one from Matt Otten gave them some breathing space at 45-39.

However, the visitors’ lead didn’t last long as Bishop and Martin piled on the points to make it 57-54 going into the decisive final quarter.

With their tails up, the Raiders had the better of the opening exchanges and seven points from Martin helped them stretch their lead to 70-63.

The Jets clawed their way back and looked like they could rescue the game late on.

An Obazuaye score brought it back to 74-71 and the same player looked to tie the game with a last-gasp three-pointer, only to see it bounce out off the rim and condemn the Jets to their second away defeat in this season’s Trophy.
