Demond Watt dominated at both ends of the court as Cheshire Phoenix proved too hot to handle for Manchester Giants at the Lucozade Soccerdome on Sunday night.

Watt, who has been in superb form for head coach John Coffino's men so far this campaign, put down 29 points and grabbed 18 boards as he proved a dominant force in the paint to help lead his side to a mightily impressive 99-82 success in Manchester, establishing themselves in the top four of the BBL in the process.

Backed by a strong and vocal following, the Nix paid tribute to much-loved club volunteer Mickey Clifford, who passed away last week, in the most apt fashion with a display that showcased their talent and hard work and a performance that suggests a tilt at silverware may be a very real possibility this campaign.

Giants had started well, leading 19-16 after 10 minutes, but simply could not keep up with their visitors' impressive rate of scoring and the home side's main weapon in their arsenal, their ability to drain from beyond the arc, was misfiring.

With the Nix making the most of their physical advantage they put in an impressive second quarter to see them into the locker room at 49-42 at half-time, with point guard Mike Di Nunno proving an influential figure on the court with his vision and speed in transition. He finished the game with 20 points.

"We focused on their strengths from outside as we knew they were a good perimeter team," said Coach Coffino.

"Defensively we did a great job and we were strong in the paint. We are not totally content with how we played as we always believe we can improve, but the guys did a good job and I'm pleased for them. They deserved the win.

"It was game won in honour of Mickey (Clifford) and he was in our thoughts beforehand. Every time we step onto that court this season will be dedicated to Mickey."

Taylor King, the BBL's top marksman, took a while to heat up, but when he found his range the game was effectively over as a contest, with the ex-Duke prospect finishing with 18 points.

Manchester were paced by 20 points each from Stef Gill and Callum Jones, but the Nix were worthy winners on a night when they sent out a clear message of intent to their league rivals.
