CHESTER Jets yesterday re-signed point guard Anthony Martin.

The 6ft 1ins 23-year-old was a key man off the bench for the Jets last season and is the first player signing from the Chester camp since coach Billy Singleton took over.

'I'm delighted to have signed him up so early,' said the new Jets coach. 'Anthony didn't start many games last season but he made a valuable contribution off the bench. I think he was the best back-up guard in the league last year.'

In his rookie year, Martin contributed 4.44 points and 3.20 assists in an average of 18.07 minutes per game. He featured in almost all of the team's games in 2004-05, missing just one, including their play-off final defeat to Newcastle.

Singleton has high hopes for the young British guard and anticipates an even more important role for him next season.

'I want to up Anthony's minutes,' he added. 'He has proven that whether he starts or comes off the bench he can be a big-time player.'
