BILLY Singleton wants to see Chester Jets gatecrash the BBL's top five in the final two weeks of the regular season.

The reigning league champions have spent much of this campaign in the lower half of the table, but they are finishing strongly and have almost certainly guaranteed a play-off spot thanks to last week-end's back-to-back wins.

With just four league games remaining, head coach Singleton is challenging his players to advance into the top five - and land an important psychological blow on their rivals going into the end-of-season shakedown.

The team Jets needs to overhaul to finish fifth is Guildford Heat - and that is where Singleton takes his side tomorrow.

The Jets' boss said: 'We're not just trying to get a play-off spot - we're trying to get the best seeding we can.

'Fourth place is out of the question but we're going to go for the next best spot after that, which is fifth.'

After tomorrow's visit to the Guildford Spectrum, Jets entertain championship-chasing Scottish Rocks on Sunday.

They round off the campaign next weekend with a trip to Milton Keynes Lions on Friday and a home meeting with the Rocks 48 hours later.

Singleton will be happy if Jets can carry their form from last weekend into their remaining four fixtures of the regular season.

He said: 'We have to prepare for them like we did last weekend. I think if we prepare and play the way we can, then we can compete with any other team. The thing is, it's about being consistent. Some days we haven't been there but I think it's just a matter of getting that little bit of consistency.'

Singleton also praised Phil Gilbert's contribution to Jets' improved form.

'Phil's been playing tough all season,' he said. 'He's a talented player and I spoke to Phil before the weekend and I said 'Phil, you're one of the premier players in the league' and he's really responded well.'

Singleton added: 'This unit has been together for quite a while now. The first half of the season, I would play four games and have a different unit, then play three games and have a different unit.

'When you have the core of the team, you can develop a bit of consistency and that's what it's all about.'
