TCS Chester Jets were back in BBL league action last weekend as they strove to make up lost ground and claim one of the top-four places to ensure home advantage for the end of the season play-offs.

Despite their continuing injury crisis they kept up with the Rocks and Towers with a 94-82 win at Leicester Riders.

With Calvin Davis missing out through an ankle problem, the Jets lost Ryan Huntley to an ankle injury early in the first quarter but still managed to overcame a determined Riders team.

After trailing by a single point at the end of the first quarter, a late 9-2 run leading up to half-time gave the Jets a 48-39 lead which they would not relinquish.

The gap had risen to 13 at 72-59 by the end of the third, and by the end of the game Chester were comfortable winners. Former Rider Billy Singleton top-scored for the Jets with 31 points and 11 rebounds, while John McCord and James Hamilton both had 17.

On Sunday evening the Jets had a must-win encounter against close rivals the Scottish Rocks and after a close encounter claimed a vital 77-73 victory.

Calvin Davis was back playing, albeit heavily strapped and with limited mobility.

The game was close throughout, but the home side were hitting a higher proportion of their shots and led 22-15 at the first quarter break.

More of the same in the second ensured that they ended the first half 43-30 to the good.

The game was by no means over as the Rocks hit an 11-0 burst of their own in the third to trim the deficit to five and closed back further in the last, keeping the large and vociferous crowd on the edges of their seats.

In a low-scoring fourth quarter, the sides were tied at 73 each at 46 seconds from the end. Then Mike Nurse was fouled by Mike Martin and the Chester guard netted the two foul shots to push Jets two points ahead.

Rocks had what seemed likely to be the last play but Jerry Williams committed a travelling violation to give up the ball to the Jets again.

John McCord, who led all scorers with 25 points, took full advantage and scored at the death.
