BIG Storage Cheshire Jets hit some high-scoring form last night to book their place in the BBL play-offs.
Having gone down 103-97 at Everton Tigers on Friday, Paul Smith’s men knew they needed to beat the Thunder – and they did it in style.
The win saw them finish in the eighth and final play-off berth – meaning they will take on formidable league champions Newcastle Eagles in the quarter-finals.
All 11 of Jets’ players got on the scoresheet against Worthing, led by 26 points from British guard Steven Gayle.
The Thunder had led for much of the first quarter. They were 14-17 up with three minutes to play before the Jets came back to lead, but then Worthing scored the final six points of the period for a 23-20 edge.
However, the Jets took the ascendancy in the second period and never looked back from there. Their first five baskets of the quarter all came from three-pointers in what became a 19-5 surge and a 39-28 lead. The first half peak was 49-30, and they still led 55-39 at the break.
The Jets outscored their visitors by 33-15 in the third quarter for an unassailable 88-54 lead going into the final stanza. Coach Paul Smith ran an entirely British five in a free-scoring fourth period.
