AS the first half of the BBL Championship season comes to a close, it has been a rollercoaster for the team.

We have gone from a side that stopped teams from playing to one that got dragged into high-scoring games, but we are still up at the top of the Championship although we can do much better – and we plan to in the new year.

After making a huge impact on the team early on, Matt Schneck’s absence has not gone unnoticed but let’s not overlook the efforts and accomplishments of our other players in Matt’s absence.

Jeremy Bell has been averaging more than 30 points per game recently and has been hitting some shots of a quality rarely seen outside the NBA.

I recall one fadeaway against Sheffield two weeks ago which took the breath away and he has shown himself to be one of the best – if not the best – of the BBL’s guards.

Quemont Greer has also been posting some outstanding figures, in the rebounding column as well as points scored, and he is beginning to make the kind of impact on the league that former Jet DJ Harrison – who many fans will fondly remember from our last Championship winning side – predicted when he recommended Q to our organisation during the summer break.

Gareth Murray and Colin O’Reilly should also be complimented for the amount of unsung work that they put in around court – doing the donkey work in defence and in transition that doesn’t show up on the scoresheet but that makes the team tick over.

And we can’t forget Calvin,– who had expected to play maybe about 18 minutes a game to give the first five a little respite but who has, without complaining, clocked up well over 30 minutes a game to help cover Matt’s absence at centre.

A final shout out to you, to the fans who have supported us.

We know it’s hard sometimes when things don’t seem to be going well. But even at the last home game against Sheffield, while we struggled on the court you remained loud and the coaching staff and players really appreciate it.

Everyone involved with the Jets would like to send our best wishes for Christmas and New Year to all the Jets fans out there.

And be assured our new year’s resolution is to return to winning ways and to the top of the league table.

See you all in January!
