Chester Jets got the defence of their BBL Trophy crown off to the perfect start by inflicting the first defeat of the season on Sheffield Sharks.

Jets won the opening North 2 group game 93-80 at the Northgate Arena.

With John McCord scoring well early on, Jets hit eight without reply in the first quarter to lead 26-15.

Sheffield drew level in the third quarter at 66, before Mike Nurse led Chester to a 77-70 lead at the end of the period.

A Nate Reinking three-point play with 1.45 left closed the gap to 88-86, but Jets scored the game's last five points to secure the win.

Mike Nurse led all scorers with 27 points for Chester, supported by McCord with 21 and Calvin Davis with 20.
