JETS produced one of the most spectacular performances for years at the Northgate Arena to overwhelm a bemused Derby outfit.

Playing high-tempo basketball from tip to buzzer, Chester built up a 54-point lead before taking their foot off the pedal and introducing the bench in the latter stages.

Any fears that Jets lacked an outside shooting threat were well and truly put to rest as they racked up 10 three-pointers before half-time.

John Thomas was quickest out of the blocks, bagging an early treble to help Jets into a 33-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The party pieces were coming out as early as the second quarter as Thomas instigated an alley-loop which Calvin Davis duly accepted.

Davis was at the end of another exhibition match manoeuvre as he delivered a slam dunk finish to David Langrell's behind-the-back pass as Jets led 63-32 at half-time.

Chester's dominance was such that they went on a 33-3 scoring run, stretching from the second to third quarters.

It took Storm four minutes 25 seconds to score a basket in the third quarter as Jets continued the press forward, led by determined skipper James Hamilton.

Jets' captain scored 15 of his 29 points in the third quarter, helping the home side to lead 96-42 at three-quarter time.

With the victory all but sewn up, coach Robbie Peers was able to give his regulars a well-earned breather as both Singer brothers and Vijay Ramburuth got a late run-out.

Derby's Kevin Griffin helped himself to 18 points in the final period against Jets' shadow squad, adding some respectability to the score.

But the damage had already been done.

Peers said: 'Derby are not a bad side, we made them look poor. We were sharp, professional and unselfish. I hope the fans appreciate what the team is doing and they don't get blase about these performances.'

Jets' scorers: Hamilton (29); Thomas (19); McCord and Langrell (both 18); Davis (17); P Singer (6); Gardner (4); Cameron (3); M Singer (2).

Jets visit Leicester Riders tomorrow (7.30pm) before facing Newcastle Eagles in the National cup quarter-finals at the Coventry Skydome on Sunday (4pm).
