Cheshire Phoenix have announced a continued partnership with Essar to deliver the Hoops 4 Health programme in Ellesmere Port.

Since moving to the Ellesmere Port Sports Village, the Nix have expanded their health education programme at schools aiming to reach 2939 pupils in over 50 schools across Cheshire and Warrington.

The financial support provided by Essar has ensured every Year 5 and 6 pupil in Ellesmere Port primary schools will be offered the opportunity to join in the Hoops 4 Health initiative.

The healthy living education programme involves professional players from the Phoenix using basketball as an activity to convey a range of positive health messages to primary school children. This includes the importance of keeping physically active and promoting all aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

Ian Cotton, head of communications for Essar, said: "With the Cheshire Phoenix now based in Ellesmere Port itself, it is even more appropriate they are able to go out to local primary schools with their excellent Hoops 4 Health programme.

"It’s vital children understand the importance of keeping physically active and eating healthily and we’re delighted to be able to support such an effective and fun way of delivering positive health messages."
