Cheshire Phoenix have swooped to sign former Glasgow Rocks forward Danny Huffor, but have bid farewell to guard Martyn Gayle.

Huffor, 28, who holds a dual UK/US passport and has represented the Scotland national side, arrives with considerable experience in the BBL having played with the Rocks last season as well as a stint with the Durham Wildcats.

A graduate of NCAA Division II school Newberry College, 6ft 4ins Huffor averaged 12 points per game and six rebounds last season and is in contention for Sunday’s home clash with the London Lions at the Cheshire Oaks Arena (5.30pm).

Huffor said: “I’m thrilled to come out and play with the team, I believe we have a lot of talent on this team, with good coaching staff and of course our fans rooting us on. I’m excited to start playing”

Huffor’s arrival at the Nix has, though, seen popular UK guard Gayle depart.

The Birmingham-born 26-year-old joined the Nix, then under the stewardship of John Coffino, in February having left BBL rivals Manchester Giants a month previous.

He signed a new deal in the summer having done enough to impress last season in 17 games which saw him average 5.9 points per game from the bench, but he has found opportunities limited so far this season.

A Phoenix spokesperson said: “The Phoenix organisation wish him the best of luck and thank him for everything he has given the club on and of the court.”
