Cheshire Phoenix last night completed their fourth signing of the summer, recruiting American forward Jeff Dirkin from Rollins College, Florida.
Illinois native Dirkin, 23, who holds a dual UK/US passport, has arrived to strengthen Cheshire’s options from the bench for the forthcoming BBL season following a successful senior year in Florida.
The 6ft 8ins forward, who played alongside new Nix point guard Sean McGonagill during their high school days, is a promising talent and represented played with Great Britain’s under-20 side during 2011, qualifying through his UK-born father.
Having been red-shirted for the 2010-2011 season, Dirkin began his college career in the Sunshine State the following season and went on to become a key man on court for the Tars, starting every game in each of the following three seasons.

In his final season in Florida, Dirkin, an honours student in college, averaged 26 minutes and shot 55% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. During the season he averaged a solid 7.1 points per game alongside 3.6 rebounds for the NCAA Division II, Sunshine State Conference side.
Phoenix head coach John Lavery said: “Jeff will be a great asset to our team.
“He is full of energy and will make an impact at key times during a game. He is extremely versatile for his size and will be a good addition to the squad this season”.
Dirkin’s arrival is expected to be added by another three or four signings by the end of August, with the squad set to come together in the UK at the start of September.
