STEPHEN Gayle has become the fifth player to commit to Cheshire Jets for the forthcoming season.

Since arriving at the Northgate Arena in 2008, the 5ft 10in Mancunian guard has gained a reputation as a great impact player.

His return was key for head coach Paul Smith as he tries to ensure an element of squad continuity from the last campaign while also bringing in new blood.

Smith is delighted to welcome Gayle back.

“We are looking to him to do the same in this campaign as he has done for the last two years – to provide that energy and intensity that can shake a game up,” said the Jets coach.

“He also gives us some continuity from last season as this year’s roster contains a number of newcomers to the league.”

Gayle will team up with familiar faces Colin O’Reilly and Calvin Davis, plus All-American duo Matt Schneck and Chris Commons.

The former Manchester Giants and Manchester Magic player averaged 7.72 points per game last season, making more than 35% of his three-pointers and greater than 75% from the free throw line.

He also provided assists at a rate of one every seven minutes all in an average of 20 minutes per game.
