MIKE Burton has been drafted in to help boost Jets’ flagging season.

The Northgate stalwart has been appointed assistant coach and will lend his vast experience to Paul Smith for the club’s remaining home games this season.

Burton, who spent 19 successful years with Jets’ senior team, has most recently been involved in leading the club’s junior programme.

He stepped down as a director of the club in 2007.

Jets head coach Smith said: “I’m very grateful to Mike for giving up what little spare time he has after leading the Jets junior programme. It’s a great boost to the team and me personally to have his knowledge, experience and energy in our locker room.”

Jets director Peter Hawkins added: “It’s really great to welcome Mike back to the Northgate. I am delighted that someone with his wealth of experience can provide the Jets with the kind of support which will allow us to make the improvements that we all know have to be made on court.”
