John Lavery has told his players not to think about Sunday’s huge clash with Worcester Wolves until after the trip to basement club Birmingham Knights.

Nix are preparing for the unusual challenge of facing the BBL leaders and bottom club in the space of 24 hours.

Lavery – who has boosted his squad with guard Michael Creppy – insists Nix must focus solely on beating the winless Knights on Saturday (7.30pm) before attention turns to the Wolves.

“We will prepare for Birmingham and we won’t talk about Worcester until Sunday,” said the coach.

“We came away from Birmingham with the win earlier in this season so we know what we need to do.

“We have got to be professional, keep our focus and make sure we take care of business.”

Lavery was pleased with his side’s display in the comfortable 97-74 win at Glasgow Rocks last weekend but feels there is still room for improvement.

“We were in control from the first tip to the 40th minute but we only really played well in patches and that’s something we have got to work on,” he said.

Although Lavery does not want to get ahead of himself, he accepts Worcester’s visit to the Northgate Arena on Sunday (5.30pm) has the potential to be one of the games of the season.

Nix have come agonisingly close to beating the leaders twice already, only for Wolves to snatch overtime wins on both occasions.

“In our eyes we owe Worcester one,” said Lavery.

“We have been there twice and lost twice in overtime and we should have got something from those games.”

With another bumper crowd expected, Lavery feels the home support can be like an extra man on the court for his side.

“The guys will be ready and hungry and if we can get a crowd like the last two home games that’s going to help tremendously,” he said.

“The Phoenix fans are the best in the BBL and I know the place will be jumping and rocking.”
