West Cheshire League
Upton AA inflicted a first home defeat on Division One leaders Vauxhall Motors with a 3-1 win in the West Cheshire League.
An own goal and Steve Rowlands had them two goals up and although Mark Noakes pulled a goal back, Lewis Denham’s strike sealed a fine win for Todd Reid’s men.
Chester Nomads climbed to second place with a 2-1 home victory over Mossley Hill Athletic. Goals from Dale Harris and Michele Apollonio wrapped up the points and ensured Tom McNamara’s response counted for nothing.
Bacon Youth Club lifted themselves out of the bottom two after a welcome 3-1 win over Capenhurst Villa. Tom Bailey spearheaded the triumph with a double and Sam Davies got the other while Alan Locke netted for Cape.
In Division Three, Helsby Reserves drew 1-1 with Ford Motors with Ben Smith cancelling out Josh Smith’s effort.
Upton AA Reserves lost 2-1 to Marshalls Reserves in the West Cheshire Shield with Jack Manners and Adam Moorcroft netting for the victors.
Chester & Wirral League
Five games survived in the Chester & Wirral League with two involving clubs taking part in the Northern Cup.
MBNA raced into a 3-0 lead at Mersey Valley through Tom Povey, Gareth Edwards and Dan Chatburn but the home side battled back to level the scores. The visitors regained the lead but again Valley equalised and the tie went to penalties with the hosts going through 4-1.
New Ferry Rangers travelled to Grange Sports and bowed out 6-2 despite Luke Cassidy’s brace.
In the Doug Johnson Veterans Shield Martin Bebington and Rob Jones gave Nags Head Bunbury a 2-1 win over Dee Rangers. Chris Woodman, Danny Brown and Andy Mellor netted as Crossway edged a 3-2 win over Frodsham Park. Blacon Youth travelled to Plough and enjoyed a 4-0 win thanks to Lee McElmeel (2), Lee Highfield and Chris Riley.
Chester & District Sunday League
St Theresa’s closed in on the leaders with a 5-1 win at FC Hickory’s in Chester & District Sunday League Section A.
Tom George put Saints ahead with a 25 yard strike and Luke Jones doubled the lead after a defensive mix up. Connor Millington’s clever chip made it 3-0 and Jones added a second before the break.
George completed his brace after the restart to make it 5-0 before Jack Gittins pulled one back for the home side.
Cheshire League side Tarporley Victoria progressed in the Crewe & District FA Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Barnton Wanderers in the second round.
