One question that is always asked as the summer heat kicks in and the pests go wild is, how to get rid of flies? They are noisy, irritating, unhygienic and unpleasant, and they are tough to keep under control.

If you live in the countryside or near animals, then it is very likely that your fly problem is due to their manure and droppings. There isn't a lot you can do about that, but you can minimise the impact on your home.

There are quite a few excellent ways of trapping or killing flies in the home. Sticky fly paper is great for back doors and outside as it catches them before they come indoors. While not exactly an attractive addition to the home, it is an effective one.

Another alternative when considering how to get rid of flies is to invest in a fly zapper. These can be placed outdoors, which is great for barbeques in the summer, or indoors to catch flies in the kitchen. Careful placement will ensure it does not get in the way, and the flies are destroyed instantly.

Spraying the flies is also very effective, but it can leave a lingering smell and you have to locate all the dead flies. This is not very hygienic, nor is it great around children and pets.

Eating outdoors in the summer is fabulous, but flies can be a complete menace. Consider getting some citronella candles as the smell of the citronella tends to repel flies. It also chases mosquitoes away, an added bonus indeed.Another idea on how to get rid of flies is to hire a professional. If your problem is so severe that you cannot cope with simple measures, then they can come in and eliminate the infestation using industrial strength sprays and tools.
