A RUNCORN councillor who narrowly missed out on General Election glory has held his seat at Halton Borough Council.
Labour’s Cllr John Stockton took 1,402 votes – 52% of ballots cast – to hold Halton Brook just hours after he was defeated by Conservative Graham Evans in the General Election battle for Weaver Vale.
He said: “This is a real boost. I’m really pleased to win in Halton Brook, especially after missing out in the MP race.
“It was incredibly hard to have lost nationally but this success is testament to the hard work that’s been put in by all the team.
“I owe a debt of gratitude to them all as this was a team victory.
“The majority was more significant this time and should encourage the whole Labour Party – it’s a pivotal result.
“It’s great to see that Labour’s done well across Halton, especially the win in Norton North. That’s a huge success.
“As regards the future, Labour really needs to focus on the bigger picture, the country as a whole.”
