CREWE and Nantwich election candidate Mike Parsons believes independents will hold as much power as the main parties in the event of a hung parliament.
He said: “Could an independent MP actually make a difference for Crewe and Nantwich?
“I believe I can make more of a difference for this constituency than any of the candidates from the main parties.
“It is very likely that we will end up with a hung parliament or a winning party with only a very small majority.
“Either way, the main parties will find it difficult to get their legislation through without the support of as many individuals as possible.
“At this point, independents will become highly sought after, as they will be amongst the few who can actually make up their own minds on how they vote.
“As such they will be able to command a high degree of bargaining power and will be able to say: “Yes, I might support your policy, if it is in the interest of those I represent but what else will you do for my constituency in return?”.
“This will be crucial in the coming months and years as there are massive cuts ahead, and things such as town centre regeneration might come under serious threat, especially if a constituency has a representative that doesn’t have the bargaining power I have described.
“I think of my policies as ‘people policies’. I prioritise children, the elderly and the disadvantaged. I cannot understand why we direct much needed resources to those who don’t deserve them, when there are people suffering and living in poverty.
“I believe law and order and the justice system are badly in need of reform, and I want to restore true democracy.
