Andrew MILLER, Labour

OUTGOING MP Andrew Miller, who was first elected as MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston in 1992, is continuing to ask voters to trust him.

He said: "Over the next few weeks readers will see claim and counter claim by all of the candidates. I would ask you to look around locally at the many examples of Labour’s success.

"Under a Labour Government we’ve seen a programme of school building, the new further education college, massive investments in health and close partnership with the private sector bringing about the expansion of Cheshire Oaks. Labour also worked with Quinn Glass, Marks & Spencer and, of course, helped secure the future for Vauxhall.

"Winter fuel allowance, tax credits and the minimum wage have benefited many of our most disadvantaged.

"The election, however, is not just about the past, it is about the future and over the next few weeks I will be asking voters to continue to trust me to take Ellesmere Port and Neston forward and create a future that is fair for all."

Stuart PENKETH, Conservative

STUART Penketh, who has been a Bury councillor since 2007, welcomed the start of the General Election.

He said: "After months of dither I am glad the real campaign is under way. The choice is very clear. We either stagnate with five more years of Gordon Brown or have a change with David Cameron and a rejuvenated Conservative Party ready to serve."

He added: "We need and deserve change in Ellesmere Port and Neston. The Conservatives will act now on Labour’s debt and get the economy moving. We will support and enhance the NHS, control immigration, raise standards in schools and change politics."

Jonathan STARKEY, Independent

JONATHAN Starkey, former Ellesmere Port and Neston councillor for the Conservative Party, is standing as an Independent candidate, in what he calls a ‘crucial’ election.

He added: "With the possibility of a hung Parliament this year, this could be a historic opportunity for Independents to make a positive difference for the common good in our country and beyond."
