THE parliamentary candidates for the Delyn constituency will be doing some voting of their own this weekend.

The candidates will be taking time out of their busy election campaigns to do some judging at the popular Cadi Ha festival in Holywell on Saturday.

While in the town centre they will be walking around and voting for the best shop window in a Welcome the summer window- dressing competition, organised by Transition Holywell & District.

Many shops have already put up some bunting to add to the festival atmosphere.

A spokesman said: “A key aspect of the Cadi Ha tradition is the carrying of a branch of blackthorn or gorse by one of the dancers to herald the coming of summer and symbolise fertility and new growth, so we thought this competition would fit in well with that.

“But we are also welcoming the Cadi Ha dancers with more branches garlanded with ribbons, buttons and so on, which local schools have been working on and which will be displayed in the street.”

Transition Holywell & District, which has organised stalls and additional attractions to entice visitors to stay in the town for the afternoon also, would like to make clear that they are supporting the event and not trying to take it over!

“We think it’s a brilliant thing for Holywell and we’re building on the excellent work done by Chris Bailey and others to revive this colourful tradition and draw people into our attractive and historic town centre – which is going through hard times at present.”

In the event of really bad weather, the dancing and stalls will be in the New Life Church (behind the post office), where Fairtrade refreshments will be served.
