Day 5 and it's back to school for the family.

We are staying in so my two get down to a bit of school work.

Teachers have emailed a selection of tasks to keep them busy and fear of the big 'catch-up' has lessened. Can't file my blog till later so Margaret and I head for coffee at Thelma and Louise, the coffee shop on the corner of the street.

Two flat whites and life is good. Still no Qantas flights leaving Sydney for UK although talks are afoot of movement from other airlines.

Husband Alasdair, who works at Chester Zoo, wants to check out Sydney's animal park at Taronga, so we opt to spend the afternoon there.

Legend has it that the giraffes have the best view of the city and it's true. Set in a fantastic location on a steep hill overlooking the harbour we spend a glorious four hours catching up with the resident koala, playtypus, possums and Tasmanian devils as well as a new baby elephant and a grumpy snow leopard.

Been in Sydney a whole week now, longer than any other destination in our month-long Grand Tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Can't believe how lucky we are to have such good friends. We are being so well looked after here and our cats and fish are being well looked after back in the UK.

Refugee life could be worse.
