Shoppers were left terrified after a man brandishing a knife entered shops in Lache on Tuesday morning (February 16).

Police responded to reports of a man with a knife at shops in Cliveden Road at about 7.46am, and he was later seen flagging down motorists and attempting to get on a bus.

Officers retrieved a knife and a hammer from the scene and a 32-year-old man was arrested.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said in a statement: " At 7.46am on Tuesday, February 16 police received reports of a man with a knife going into shops in Cliveden Road in Chester.

"The man was seen to leave the shops and try to flag down motorists before trying to get on a bus.

"A 32-year-old man was arrested and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries. Police are establishing the circumstances."
