THERE is a new addition to Chester Zoo, Budi the baby orangutan.

The new born, whose name means Wise One, brings the total of Sumatran orangutans at the zoo to seven.

The birth is just one of many new arrivals at the zoo after a recent litter of around 20 coatis, a racoon-type animal which originate from South America, were born.

The animals, which live on insects and fruit, have left the nest and are now busy playing and getting to know the rest of their family.

Meanwhile, a new buffalo has been born. It is the second to be sired by Kinta and Opala, and is the zoo's 22nd arrival at the zoo.

Mike Jordan, the zoo's curator of birds and mammals, said: "This is a great start to the summer season - all the new arrivals are doing well, and we are delighted that the animal collection continues to go from strength to strength."
