BANGOR-on-Dee Primary School’s cook has received a year’s supply of raisins for the school after scooping the runners-up position in the California Raisins Healthy Canteen of the Year 2008 competition.

Yvonne Urquhuart had to write about her role in offering healthy meals and snacks to the 152 pupils at the school.

Judges were looking to see how well the canteen liaised with the school in providing nutritious meals, and Bangor-on- Dee, as part of the Wales ‘Healthy Schools’ initiative, clearly ticked all the boxes.

The raisins will be used in a variety of recipes as well as in biscuits for the school’s tuck shop.

Yvonne is also committed to improving her own qualifications and has completed her NVQ 2 in food related studies.
