A RUABON school has had its playground transformed thanks to a group of volunteers.

Under Business in the Community’s (BITC) Cares scheme, staff from Brother Industries spent a day giving the play area at Ysgol Maes-y-Llan a revamp.

The team painted the early years’ fencing red blue and yellow and added some pencil posts for the children to play around.

The highlight was the creation of a caterpillar made from tyres for the children to play on.

Dave Lawrence, environmental and quality manager at Ruabon-based Brother Industries said: “This has been such a worthwhile project for Brother, the project team, the school and the community.

“It was fantastic for us to be able to do something for the children at this school, and in turn, from a business point of view, our staff were able to use this as a team-building exercise, relying on each other and helping each other.

“They got a great sense of achievement from the day and morale was really high. This is transferring into the workplace too, and means that everyone has had a real boost.”

Ysgol Maes-y-Llan headteacher Gylla Magee said: “The children, staff and parents are all absolutely delighted.”
